Celonis: Tracing Digital Process Footprints to Help Enterprises Increase Efficiency and Improve Agility

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Most enterprise management teams have little understanding of how things actually work inside their organizations. While many enterprise organizations have gone to great lengths to model and document how they think things should work — there is often a great unknown divide between that ideal state and the inefficiencies and variances that exist in reality.

Using a technique called process mining, Celonis helps organizations ‘turn on the lights’ to see how things really work. They recognized that in today’s digitally-powered enterprise organizations, employees leave digital footprints when performing almost all activities. Based on this insight, Celonis traces those footprints and assembles them into an event log that helps organizations understand who is performing which activities, when they’re performing them and how long they are taking to complete.

As you might expect, this treasure trove of data offers organizations the ability to understand exactly how employees are executing business processes in real life and to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities. But when combined with known desired states (in the form of process models) and some machine learning, Celonis enables organizations to rapidly identify the most impactful opportunities and identify ways in which they can transform their business processes to drive organizational agility.
