DeMystifying the Digital Transformation Legend
For most organizations, digital transformation is a reactionary process. Beset by the threat of disruption by so-called digital native tech companies, enterprises scrambled to respond — or at least seem as though they were.
Organizations launched countless digital transformation initiatives that were little more than traditional technology projects wrapped in the veneer of a buzzword that ensured that there would be plenty of budget — and political cover.
But in most cases, these efforts completely missed the point.
The true essence of digital transformation is really to drive innovation that creates competitive differentiation and business value in a changing world. “The key to innovation is doing things differently,” explained Jim Williams, Managing Director and Head of Operations and Shared Services Technology with RBC Capital Markets at a recent Alfresco customer event.
Williams went on to explain how his company had used Alfresco’s Digital Business Platform that freed his teams to reimagine how they worked. In fact, they didn’t even call it digital transformation, per se. Instead, they were merely trying to look at their world with fresh eyes and ask how they could innovate to create value for the organization with a simple question, “What else can we do?”
