An Intellyx BrainCandy Brief
Across the enterprise today, the name of the game is automation. Organizations everywhere are trying to automate every routine and repetitive manual process they can find. Whether in the form of robotic process automation (RPA), digital process automation (DPA) or other kinds of automation, they are in a mad rush to streamline and accelerate every process they use to operate their organizations. And, as has often been the case, while IT is a critical part of enabling these technologies, the IT organization has been slow to adopt these same practices internally. This cobbler’s children syndrome is now leaving IT organizations to grapple with ever-more-intricate, yet manual operational processes that they must execute flawlessly to keep up with the demands of the organization. And it’s coming to a breaking point.
Recently coming out of stealth, upstart Pliant aims to change this situation. You can think of the company’s solution as a DPA solution for IT’s business processes. Using an API-driven architecture, the solution enables organizations to orchestrate, automate, and manage complex, business-driven IT processes across the entire management stack. Sitting atop task-oriented and technology-specific automation tools, it allows IT teams to build sophisticated workflows that operate at a service level and which transcend any single element of the technology stack. For instance, rather than just automating the deployment of a new piece of infrastructure, a Pliant workflow can initiate its deployment, but also trigger an update to the CMDB, create a monitoring profile, and create an asset record — all in different systems.
The company’s solution is purpose-built for the complex process needs of IT organizations with pre-built connectors to over 60 of today’s most common technology management tools — with more being added each week. The company claims that organizations can use its solution in a variety of use cases, including service provisioning, event management and response, and data mediation (data transformation between management systems). It operates in a hybrid model supporting both on-premises and public cloud infrastructure elements. Most importantly, the solution uses a no-code management paradigm enabling IT organizations to build and maintain these intricate and interwoven workflows without any coding or scripting, allowing them to not only gain operational efficiencies, but also ensure that they will be able to support the enterprise with the speed and agility they require.
