An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Remember Acronis? I remembered something about their software doing disk imaging and recovery on that killer 512MB RAM PC laptop I had back in 2006.
If you weren’t keeping track of them, in 2019, Acronis appears to have come onto the scene from an alternate dimension, reappearing as a global enterprise systems and data safekeeping force to be reckoned with.
They are still serving up backup and recovery tools for half-a-million-or-so PC customers, and for servers in a bunch of IT shops, yes, but they are also delivering a broader set of ‘Cyber Protection’ solutions on a white-label basis, for thousands of consulting, ISV, network and hardware channel partners.
Acronis offers an ‘any-to-any data protection’ capability, delivered via its own datacenter network, through public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCS/etc.), private cloud and on-premises deployments, or on connected devices, in a modular form factor with APIs and a well-optimized interface that partners (including cybersecurity firms, SIs, and many other types of ISVs and technology companies) can consume the way they want.
They are also pushing their enterprise system recovery service and data protection to the edge, in remote servers on containers, in IoT devices, even on blockchain for an immutable data veracity record (don’t worry they are using it for storing and verifying a hash, not all the data).
All of these capabilities are somewhat surprising, until you realize how many service providers, platforms and software ISVs, including very industry-specific ones you knew all along were using them, and selling adjacent products through their own marketplace as well. That’s how channel marketing works, folks!
