Text IQ: Using AI to Help Enterprises Find and Secure Sensitive Information

An Intellyx BrainCandy Brief

In the modern era of GDPR, heightened compliance demands, and broad privacy concerns, enterprises must now navigate a veritable minefield of risks associated with sensitive customer data. Finding and securing this data — including personally identifying information (PII), protected health information (PHI), and other privileged information — is hard enough within structured data sources (such as databases, financial systems, and ERPs). But this challenge becomes exponentially more difficult when organizations must find and protect it in unstructured sources such as email, collaboration platforms (e.g., Slack, Teams, etc.), social media, and documents (e.g., Word and Excel files).

Text IQ’s founders were pioneers in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and did early research and development into the use of the machine learning and other AI-based technologies to find relationships in unstructured data. Specifically, the company has combined linguistic analysis and social analysis into a new domain they call language analysis. Using its proprietary techniques, the company’s solution can analyze unstructured data and identify specific people, roles, and relationships — and the context they provide — to create inferences that are not otherwise possible.

Using this technology, the company enables its clients to continually and dynamically monitor unstructured data sources such as Slack conversations, email exchanges, and social media posts, to identify the potential release of protected information and to identify bad behavior such as sexual harassment or insider trading violations. According to the company, this new-found, AI-powered capability gives its clients the freedom to grow without worrying about that minefield.
