dotData: Automating AI for Everyone

An Intellyx BrainCandy Update

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of those topics that sounds easy, and like everyone is doing it when you read about it in business and trade publications, but which is much harder to realize in real life. Enterprises that attempt to build an AI capability quickly realize that the competition for skilled data scientists, coupled with the complexity of data science pipelines, make the vision of an AI-powered future challenging to create. The biggest problem, however, is the disconnect that often develops between the business users who need to apply AI to create value and the data scientists developing models and algorithms. The time it takes to build models and move them into production, and the challenges of communicating business needs to highly technical data scientists, often results in models that never make it into production at all.

dotData believes that the answer to this dilemma is to apply automation to AI to speed development times and make it accessible to the business users who actually need it. The company claims that it can reduce a typical data science pipeline from months to days by automating everything, including data collection and prep, feature engineering, model creation, and production deployment. Moreover, because the company’s solution abstracts away much of the complexity, it believes it can make it accessible to non-data scientists such as business analysts. The company reports, in fact, that 80% of its users are already non-technical.

The company’s latest iteration of its solution, dotData Enterprise Version 2.0, has a completely remodeled user interface that makes it even more accessible to non-technical users. It also makes it easier for them to seamlessly integrated business intelligence (BI) and AI use cases. A key element of making this technology accessible to non-technical users is the company’s heavy focus on transparency. This focus makes it easy for them to understand what is happening behind the scenes and avoid the so-called ‘black box.” The company believes that its approach will make it easier for mid-market firms to apply AI without hiring expensive data science teams. It will also help large enterprises expand their use of AI by putting much of its development and deployment into the hands of the business users closest to the business need.
