An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
Alkira offers a software-driven hybrid IT network overlay that leverages available public and private cloud infrastructures to offer low-latency governed access to a wide variety of application and security services.
In one sense it’s still early days for this startup founded in 2018, but in another, it’s amazing to see how innovation in cloud-native deployment and networking standards has enabled this company to leverage and leapfrog a decade of development from MPLS switching through later consolidation in the SD-WAN space in such a short time.
From the enterprise customer’s point of view, Alkira would look like their own cloud exchange provider (or CXP) with a relatively simple looking flow configuration view, but under the surface they have Kubernetes lifting containers to present a multi-tenant, multi-cloud backbone and a marketplace of partner services that businesses may rapidly select and configure according to needs without the complex stitching work.
For example, their customer could choose AWS in one region and Azure in another based on performance or compliance concerns, provision a shared Paloalto firewall or Checkpoint gateway, or leverage the client’s existing SD-WAN vendor to quickly load up its authorization and applications for end users.
