Votiro scans unstructured documents and removes malicious content

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Votiro doesn’t trust any unstructured file going in or out of your organization, whether via email, upload or download, or as part of an API call.

It scans and verifies unstructured data files, copying safe data into a new version of the file, and moving any malicious content into another file, which can be sent to the security operations center (or other team) for analysis. All in real time.

Votiro supports 180 unstructured data file types, such as PDF, audio and visual files, CSV files, and Office 365 documents. Structured data files, such as SQL queries, however, are out of scope.

In the case of an Excel spreadsheet, for example, Votiro uses ML to separate malicious macros from safe macros, preserving the functions of the file.

Use cases for Votiro include scanning email attachments, browser file downloads, SaaS system uploads, data exchanges, intra-company file trnsfers, files embedded in API calls, and uploads to file sharing tools.

Scanning for data privacy use cases is scheduled for release in October. This capability extends the file scanning technology to check for PII and other sensitive data. Sensitive data can be masked and redacted to prevent accidental disclosure.

Votiro can be implemented at various places in the file transfer path, such as post decryption but prior to reaching the final destination.
