Nethopper: Easing the cognitive load of delivering Kubernetes developer platforms

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

NethopperNethopper provides a platform for delivering internal development platforms (IDPs) that include the preselected software engineering components Kubernetes developers need so they can focus on building new application functionality rather than concerns such as infrastructure provisioning, observability, networking, security, deployment and operations.

Since our last briefing with Nethopper in early 2023, platform engineering practices have gained greater awareness among progressive GitOps development shops, but delivering a truly useful IDP requires more than just a self-service portal in front of a box of tools, especially when delivering cloud native applications into a complex environment of thousands of components.

The progressive concept of canary testing allows developers to roll out a component upgrade or a new branch from a git repo, and if there is something going wrong, roll it back before it populates clusters in production regions. The challenge here is not about a point-in-time deployment, it is to make that cultural shift toward thinking about a process for continually improving Kubernetes applications on Day 2 and beyond.
