An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Yellowbrick Data’s high performance SQL data warehouse platform runs on their own appliance, in the cloud, and in hybrid deployments.
The platform uses a custom operator to run efficiently in cloud provider variants of Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, and AKS). They are developing a private cloud implementation for OpenShift.
Yellowbrick initially sold their high performance SQL data warehouse as an appliance, and then re-engineered the software for the cloud. They are now partnering with Dell to sell commodity hardware systems that support private cloud deployments.
Yellowbrick tweaks the operating system and optimizes storage to create a high performance and cost-effective system.
They offer strong security controls, including data sovereignty compliant deployments. The cloud native version is not deployed as a SaaS – it’s installed and managed in the customer’s cloud account.
Yellowbrick integrates Kafka and ETL tools for streaming data ingestion, which can be executed while analytics are running, continuously updating the data warehouse for real time analytics.
Yellowbrick focuses on four main use cases: analytics, data warehouse, streaming analytics, and AI and data science.
AI support includes workload analytics and natural language questions that return answers as SQL queries.
Iceberg support is in the works, as is a text to SQL co-pilot.
A Community Edition is available for free for trials and development, which is limited to a single node of up to 32 virtual CPUs, The Enterprise Edition is available for purchase to run production workloads and support scale up and scale out capabilities.
