Vultr: More cloud for less cost, basically

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Vultr Intellyx BCVultr has rather quietly built an alternative global hyperscaler geared toward the needs of developers seeking to compose their own cloud stacks and optimize their cloud cost-to-performance ratios, by efficiently splitting its own infrastructure fleet of GPUs/CPUs and storage volumes into performance tiers based on the workload and application use case.

So where an AI development project with an important inference workload may want to reserve the latest GPUs and high-performing SSD storage for responsiveness, a platform engineering team could roll their own cloud atop bare metal, and a startup may even grab bargain-priced or free-tier commodity CPUs for their demo workloads.

Similar to other clouds, Vultr customers can select services such as a managed Kubernetes engine or partner cloud offerings through a marketplace.

Now, after announcing a major capital infusion, Vultr is expanding its go-to-market presence atop its 32 globally distributed data centers, so I suspect you’ll hear more from them in the coming year.
