An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Security solutions for mobile devices running the Android and iOS operating systems tend to apply protection at the application level.
Corrata on the other hand detects and responds to mobile device threats at the network level, using what you might call a mini web application firewall.
Corrata compares what they are doing to “Crowdstrike for mobile.” They install an agent on the mobile device and provide a management console and dashboard an organization uses to set security policies and receive alerts from mobile devices employees use for business purposes.
Agents also scan mobile devices and apps, and raise alerts when they detect vulnerabilities.
The approach is based on the idea that if consumers are using mobile devices more and more for everyday functions such as banking, shopping, and travel, employees are similarly going to use mobile devices more and more for conducting business.
The solution initially targets companies with a mobile workforce, i.e. companies whose business require its employees to conduct business at least in part outside of the office. Lawyers, real estate agents, building inspectors, and sales people for example fall into this category.
The Corrata app is distributed via Google Play and the App Store, but activation requires a code that a customer distributes to its employees.
The app then scans network traffic to detect phishing attempts, infected devices, and network attacks. The app sends alerts to its console and blocks any attacks it recognizes.
