An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
SpiderOak secures access and sets permissons for edge devices such as IoT and defense systems, and secures messages exchanged among those devices.
The SpiderOak platform manages IDs for device authentication and authorization controls. Their solution works with Department of Defense applications, manufacturing systems, and other occasionally connected devices. Security controls are available whether the devices are connected or not.
SpiderOak protects against such threats as satellite spoofing and drone takeovers. They provision a control mesh on each device and when devices connect to each other they check the security control for permitted access.
For drone takeovers they can carve out a disabled or stolen drone from the security mesh. Their system also exchanges and manages cryptographic keys to protect data transmissions, and they can disable and swap out keys in real time to guard against key theft.
The SpiderOak solution ensures edge authentication conforms to an organization’s policy. Every digital interaction in an IoT or edge network configuration has associated security and permissions, including PKI controls for certificate management.
SpiderOak creates the device IDs and specifies when the IDs are allowed to communicate with and who they authorized to communicate with. SpiderOak uses a domain specific language (DSL) to provision its controls into the network mesh.
Each device in the protected network has a copy of the DSL that defines the controls it uses to manage communication requests.
SpiderOak also handles certificate lifecycles and revocations automatically for the devices, including drones and robots.
