An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Early in my career as a commercial video producer and game developer, I would spend all night watching boxes of project videotapes, logging clips in a text file and digitizing select sections while sipping on a rum-spiked Slurpee. That hassle was just part of the business for a media pro in the 90s.
Today, all kinds of commercial and non-profit organizations—most of which are well outside of the traditional media production sphere—have amassed huge volumes of poorly organized digital content assets. Some in the cloud and on social media, but even more on physical drives and NAS storage: events, meetings, tutorials, screen shares and camera footage. There’s far too much media to upload to a cloud service without prohibitive ingest and storage cost, and the risk of exposing unvetted content.
Axle AI’s media asset management solution can operate on-premises, to visually recognize objects and people, read on-screen text and labels, and understand spoken dialogue in order to provide an API-accessible and user-searchable catalog of metatagged media assets. Their algorithms can even do scene detection, which is particularly useful for distinguishing a board meeting from an agile planning session, or a tennis match from a track meet.
Their media search interface, which appears as a panel within Adobe Premiere and other popular media editing platforms, allows media pros and amateur auteurs to rapidly hone in on previews of any selected set of tagged properties with simple relevance sliders. Software developers and AI/machine learning models can also invoke the catalog declaratively through APIs using the open source ONNX standard. No Slurpee required.
