An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
When we last covered Continuent, they described their highly available Tungsten Clusters for MySQL and MariaDB databases.
In our recent briefing, Continuent talked about their new Auree product, layered on the Tungsten Cloud and developed by the same team, which automates database high availability (HA) and controls deployment inside your cloud account or across multiple cloud accounts. Auree also supports full data sovereignty.
Auree works with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB, configuring and deploying failsafe resilience in highly available cloud configurations so that you don’t have to design and engineer the HA topology yourself.
You can use Auree to move your database loads from cloud provider to cloud provider, and provision deployment clusters across multiple cloud providers.
Auree uses a primary/replica architecture for high availability. If the primary fails, traffic is automatically rerouted to the replica and your database application stays online.
Customers connect to a cloud account, choose a database engine, and the Auree control plane automatically provisions, configures, and clusters the data plane. The control plane also allows you to monitor, control, and migrate the database once deployed.
Intellyx Hot Take: Automating HA deployment for databases is a significant benefit for customers who would otherwise have to figure it out for themselves. The multi-cluster and multi-cloud capability is also important, especially for European customers who are interested in migrating public cloud workloads to achieve data sovereignty.
Intellyx Cold Take: Cloud database support is somewhat limited, although PostreSQL is increasing in popularity.
