LittleHorse: Trampling process fragmentation with business-as-code agent action layer

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

LittleHorseLittleHorse abstracts the functionality of SaaS apps, enterprise software, integration services, and AI agents in a unique declarative “action layer” in order to unblock barriers to orchestrating repeatable and scalable business processes.

Most companies with any digital history are muddling along attempting to connect business processes with an estate of various SaaS-based applications, IPaaS and API connectivity platforms, and even low-code apps and RPA bots stitched together by in-house citizen developers. The introduction of GenAI and agents has only exacerbated this problem, by inserting more black-box generated code and unreviewed changes into the environment, often without the appropriate context of business intent.

LittleHorse seeks to untangle this quandary with an open-source action broker core kernel, and their Saddle action orchestration harness that interprets business intent as declarative “business-as-code” in a directed graph that deterministically surfaces the transfer of tasks and data between the appropriate agents and other services and systems.

Intellyx hot take: Given the current agentic AI-generated hype that is generating context debt, AI-driven firms are saying they can just stick the AI cart in front of the business horse, so to speak, whereas LittleHorse puts a much smaller, nimbler horse in front of both. Much like good old BDD (business driven development) for this fragmented world.

Intellyx cold take:  Software architects and engineering leaders will need a shift in mindset to understand this approach. It’s not another app builder at all, it sort of treats all services and agents like microservices, but it also maintains the business workflow context required for long-running workflows.
