Identity and access management is one of the nastiest lingering problems standing in the way of digital transformation. While password managers and sessions are too easy for innovative hackers to hijack, attempts to enforce too-many-factor authentication routines and rigid access controls invariably destroys customer experience.
There have been other proprietary forms of hardware dongles and passcode devices over the years, but industry consortiums have produced new methods for authentication such as the FIDO ceremony to respect access policies while streamlining operations. Once physically authenticated through the ring, users can passively supply nearby access points with an attestation of just the information needed to verify their application privileges.
