An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
When we spoke with Treblle at the API Days NY conference last year, they were primarily targeting developer requirements.
When we spoke with them recently, they told us they are now also targeting enterprise requirements, releasing a new version of their product this month.
Treblle is an example of the current API market trend described in the API Days article (link above). Monolithic “all in one” API gateways are losing ground to specialized products that do one thing well. In Treblle’s case, that’s API analytics and observability.
One interesting features of Treblle’s product is the API scoring system in their governance dashboard. Treblle assesses an organization’s APIs and generates a score from 1 to 100 (100 is the best score) for each API’s performance, quality, security, and compliance.
Most API observability tools provide graphical analytics, but Treblle takes it to the next level by abstracting the information into an opinion about your APIs, represented as a single number. For example Treblle might assess an API with a security score of 72 and a quality score of 55.
When the scores indicate a problem (such as a 55 would), you can click down into the details and discover exactly how and why Treblle produces the numbers, and use its remediation capabilities to help resolve issues.
The success of the scoring feature depends on trusting the number Treblle produces. If you find that you can trust the scoring system, it can save you a lot of the time and effort compared to reaching a similar conclusion on your own (which is basically what everyone currently does).
The scoring system brings up another interesting question, though. If Trebble successfully simplifies API governance using an abstract scoring system for performance, quality, security, and compliance – what else could it do?
