An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Vates supports and maintains a complete open source VMS orchestration stack based on a community-hardened XCP-ng fork of the Xen hypervisor that is now starting to see significant migration among former VMware customers who are looking for a replatform alternative without proprietary licensing grief.
The component structure of their turnkey platform looks remarkably familiar, though R&D has been invested in performance, security, and cost control enhancements under the hood. Through a console, managers can migrate, administer and back up their VM fleet on the x86 boxes they have in place, without needing to learn how to wrangle Linux and containers, or move to a proprietary stack.
Engineers and managed service providers will appreciate the platform’s API-first integration approach, as well as its deployability to hybrid IT environments, whether through a Terraform provider plug-in, or onto private infrastructure. Their bosses and clients will appreciate the lack of vendor lock-in and the option of a predictable enterprise support cost structure.
