As organizations begin to develop and deploy AI agents, they also uncover new security risks.
Risks related to identity management, for example, require organizations to provision and govern identities for their AI agents to control what data sources and tools they can access, and what tasks they are allowed to perform with them.
Identity management solutions designed to manage human interactions are not sufficient for the autonomous and dynamic capabilities of AI agents.
Keycard‘s identity management solution, Keycard for Coding Agents, securely connects and monitors agents, remediating the new risks by integrating and extending existing identity and policy management tools specifically to provide the identities and policies agents need.
Their infrastructure securely connects AI agents and enforces organizational policies access across multiple agents and their tools, data, and user interactions.
Agent developers include Keycard libraries into their code when they build agents. Agents then register with Keycard to issue security tokens to include in their communications with other agents and applications.
Keycard uses a single OAuth compliant login managed by an identity provider (usually one the organization is already using), passing the credentials along the agentic call chain in the form of a Java Web Token (JWT).
When an agent tool call requires third party API access, the JWT is exchanged for a provider-specific access token. Keycard exchanges the JWT for a short-lived access token for that provider. The token is discarded after it’s used and is not persisted.
Each subsequent agent tool call obtains a new token. Conformance to policy is evaluated when credentials are issued, not when they’re used.
