MetalBear: Isolated Virtual Testing in a Staging Enironment

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Open source project mirrorD, developed by MetalBear, creates a virtual space within an organization’s staging environment to run locall processes in their Kubernetes environment for testing microservices and AI agents.

Staging environments are typically used only as a pre-production environment to test the application deployment process. mirrorD enables customers to further utilize a staging environment for microservice and agent testing.

Typically organizations provision and manage multiple environments for development, testing, and production. Test environments are rarely provisioned adequately for production testing due to the expense of replicating the production environment. However, staging environments tend to be much more aligned with production environments.

Developers need to see how an individual microservice behaves in the overall system, however, before certifying it as production ready. mirrorD allows them to do that in a staging environment that typically already exists.

Staging environments are not usually used for application level testing because they are shared environments. mirrorD solves this by creating a protected virtual environment within the staging environment to isolate the microservice or agent being tested.

MetalBear announced a new feature called a preview environment, which connects a microservice to all its dependencies.
