Avassa: Scalable application and AI workload orchestration at the edge

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Avassa logoEdge applications are taking over the world, from autonomous mining and farming vehicles, to cameras and controls on the factory floor, to retail point-of-sale devices, each with unique hardware, firmware, and OS system footprints. Delivering fit-for-purpose applications and now, AI inferencing for tasks like image recognition onto thousands of remote nodes usually requires tricky engineering work.

Rather than specifying hardware, network or OS layers, Avassa abstracts away edge deployment complexity with cloud native application orchestration and management capabilities that flexibly fits software and its supporting infrastructure stack anywhere a container can run.

As we covered in our previous briefing with Avassa in 2024, IoT devices run software in environments that have inconsistent connectivity to the internet. Think of that mining truck in the depths of the earth, or a secure production facility that is purposely airgapped during runs.

Remote deployed software needs to maintain its own state to continue operations, and when specialized AI models are included, they need local access to their own training data and features. Avassa can schedule software updates, or make them opportunistically the next time there is a connectivity window.

Intellyx hot take: While Avassa can simplify IT/OT software implementation, the real value here is on day two and beyond as thousands of nodes are added, monitored and managed.

Intellyx cool take: Many end users may not even be aware they are already using Avassa, as IT/OT software and product vendors can OEM their orchestration capabilities.
