An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
It’s difficult for any enterprise to get a handle on the entirety of its data landscape. Data models typically support individual applications, not enterprise wide characteristics such as total revenue, expense, or profit.
DataHub started life at LinkedIn as a solution to this problem, collecting organizational metadata into a common catalog and through that aggregation offering a common place to understand and govern a data landscape. Like Kafka, DataHub became an open source project that other organizations use for the same purpose.
As organizations start to develop AI agents for analytics applications, they need access to organizational data and an authoritative source for the metadata context the agents need to complete their tasks. DataHub recently updated their flagship DataHub Cloud product to ingest and serve such context graphs to analytics agents, increasing their accuracy and reliability.
DataHub Cloud’s context layer supports out of the box analytics agents such as Databricks Genie and Snowflake Intelligence as they work with enterprise data from data warehouses and data lakes, helping to ensure AI agents return the right results. The product provides similar capabilities for custom-built analytics agents.
DataHub Cloud continuously extracts semantic meaning from query histories, validating the resulting context graph against them. DataHub Cloud maintains a graph engine under the storage layer that supplies the current metadata graph context to AI agents.
DataHub Cloud provides AI analytics agents with:
- Discoverability – answer questions on data directly using natural language
- Observability – monitor how the metadata changes over time.
- Governance and compliance capabilities.
The platform’s event-driven architecture continuously refreshes the context as organizational metadata changes, which improves accuracy and reliability.
DataHub follows the open core model, offering support contracts for the open source product and licensing additional enterprise features they add to the core open source product.
