Forgepoint built a specialized agent named “Frank” that learns and understands the operations, processes, and material constraints of a mid-sized manufacturing business, in order to streamline the intake and delivery of complex customer requirements for orders.
There’s no need to reinvent the wheel of existing ERP or MRP systems here, or even a need to change vast content and specification data sources. Since medium-sized companies have high customer expectations and lean margins, a specialized AI agent like Frank can become an expert user of the manufacturer’s deterministic tools and learn the brand’s specific business model.
With the initial guidance of forward-deployed engineers, Frank considers materials specifications and cost, capital, inventory, and equipment requirements, and manufacturing lead times, and asks relevant questions of the team of inside sales reps and engineers in order to generate an accurate quote for a business customer.
“Our customer base does not expect an AI to do everything,” said Jack Strauss, CEO and co-founder, Forgepoint. “They want AI to do the things that bog down their people and take away from the time they have to do the things that actually require judgment and expertise, whether they are an applications engineer, a process engineer, or an estimator.”
Intellyx hot take: Think about a part in a commercial airliner. If an airline requests a part, there’s no way a novice phone rep, or a generalized AI, could possibly think about the 3D models, bill of materials, submanufacturers, and cost workups unless they are aerospace engineers. Frank can get up to speed in under a month and lighten the cognitive load for experienced planners.
Intellyx cold take: Big companies like Toyota, Dell, or Foxconn have already built vast application estates, and likely, an army of seasoned technical sales reps and engineers to handle this kind of work, Most companies with less than multi-billion-dollar revenue have never had the chance to rationalize their intake process in this way.
