As Jason Bloomberg, who at the time was the EnterpriseWeb Chief Data Evangelist, explained at a 2014 Enterprise Data World session entitled “MDM: Master Data Management or Massive Data Mistake?” MDM solutions need to incorporate enough agility to keep pace with modern business architecture and methods, and the flexibility required for real-time decision making in data driven processes. According to Bloomberg:
“We’ve made this compromise because we don’t have any other way of dealing with the level of dynamic behavior that the business is saying… is what we really need. We really need business agility, and IT says wait a minute we really don’t know how to do that, so here’s the compromise: Performance versus flexibility, and we have to give up flexibility in order to get stuff to work.”
