Continuing a tradition from last year, I have decided to write my final Forbes article for the year reflecting on the top articles for 2016. As with last year’s summation, a common theme across these five articles is disruption. More specifically, however, this year’s theme is conflict.
You can’t have a good story without conflict, of course – which is likely why many of these articles attracted so many readers. Unlike the conflict in fiction, however, real-world conflict may lack a satisfying resolution.
Conflict without resolution, in fact, may explain why two of these articles predate 2016 entirely. For any writer looking for repeat traffic, after all, conflict without resolution is the gift that keeps on giving.
Number 5: Microsoft Outmaneuvers Salesforce For LinkedIn’s Data, December 11, 2016. My story about Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn broke the top five after only three weeks. Stories about big-name vendors often do well, and perhaps my articles are attracting more people generally.
