Twistlock: Promising a New Generation of Security for a Cloud-Native World

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Enterprise organizations are reaching an inflection point. As they seek to digitally transform, they are facing a no-win situation. Secure their environments traditionally, but at the cost of the speed that digital transformation demands — or move at velocity, but sacrifice security. The reason, according to Twistlock, is that the traditional approaches to manual security policy creation and enforcement just cannot keep up as organizations adopt containers, microservices, and other cloud-native approaches.

The company believes, however, that this inflection point offers an opportunity to reimagine security for this dynamic and fast-moving world. Twistlock provides what they claim is a unified security platform for modern applications. It uses behavioral analysis and machine learning to automatically create and enforce security policies with each new software build.

Integrating vulnerability data from thirty-five data sources, combined with its own proprietary research, the company’s aim is to eliminate false positives and — rather than merely ‘shifting security left’ — make security a continuous and pervasive part of every build.

Moreover, the company claims that its approach turns traditional approaches upside down. Rather than relying on blacklist approaches, which it believes organizations cannot keep up-to-date, the company creates dynamic whitelists by combining behavioral analysis and machine learning on an app-by-app basis. Finally, the company integrates security into the development and deployment tools that enterprises are already using to make securing applications an automatic and fluid motion in the development and deployment process.
