Devo: A Data Operations Platform for the Evolution of Data

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

According to Devo, we are in the midst of a data evolution (hence their name change from LogTrust to Devo). It is an evolution in which we are moving from humans being the primary creators of data to a time in which machines generate the vast majority of it. Moreover, according to the company, this machine-generated operational data exists throughout the modern enterprise. Today, however, that data is often segregated and used separately.

The company’s data operations platform handles both real-time data as well as performing historical analysis. The goal, according to the company, is to have all data available to enable organizations to improve business performance and reduce operational costs. This massive amount of data, however, normally creates challenges during the ingestion process. To accommodate this, the company’s solution separates data ingestion from three activities that then run in parallel: indexing, compression, and queries.

On top of the core data platform, the company has layered tools to enable analytics, dashboards, reports, and most interestingly, applications. These applications, for instance, allow organizations to aggregate multiple data sources that include both machine-generated data and traditional business data that they can then expose to business users to improve customer service, create new revenue opportunities, and improve operational efficiencies.
