An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
When the world’s biggest companies faced their biggest and thorniest computing challenges, they turned to High-Performance Computing (HPC). HPC architectures were made to handle the most intensive compute workloads that a typical enterprise demanded. This high compute capability, however, also came with substantial capital investments and little of the flexibility and scalability that cloud computing offered other enterprise workloads.
Aiming to close this gap, Rescale has created a workload-centric, hybrid model that offers enterprises the ability to meet their HPC demands using existing investments and by leveraging the new generation of cloud-based HPC capabilities. The company provides a software-based HPC platform that works with both existing on-premises HPC environments as well as HPC services from the major cloud providers.
Rather than taking a hardware-centric approach, the platform acts as a workload orchestrator, profiling each workload based on performance demands as well as economic considerations and policies, and then deploys the workload where it is most appropriate — whether that is using existing on-premises or cloud-based HPC resources. The platforms administration portal provides fine-grained role-based controls, and the platform includes additional security controls to help enterprises meet stringent regulatory and compliance requirements. The company claims that this approach enables enterprises to satisfy their ever-growing HPC demands while protecting existing HPC investments.
