Esgyn: A Converged Big Data Platform for the Modern Enterprise

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

It used to be pretty straightforward. You had transactional systems and the databases that supported them. And then you had your data warehouse or data lake for data analytics. But that was the model for a slow-moving world. Today’s always-on world demands that organizations be able to use their data to execute and manage business and operational transactions at high volumes and increased levels of reliability. At the same time, however, organizations must be able to also use that same data to perform real-time analytics and gain immediate insights that they can use to optimize operational performance and improve the customer experience.

Esgyn realized that the two-tiered database models of the past are insufficient to meet the modern needs of the enterprise. Leveraging its deep history of developing databases for both operational and analytics use cases, the company created a new hybrid query engine that can support both use cases simultaneously. Moreover, the company’s architecture allows it to connect to various storage engines such as HBase, ORC, and Parquet via a single workflow and using standard SQL syntax.

The company’s new solution, called Esgyn Strato, is a new cloud-based platform that takes this approach even further by abstracting much of the underlying complexity to allow organizations to focus on their operational or optimization needs rather than on the mechanics of database management. Along with Strato, the company also announced a new managed services offering that will handle database management functions such as provisioning, configuration, testing, deployment, and tuning of an Esgyn environment for enterprise clients.
