Loop AI Labs Update: Doubling Down on the Promise of “Cognitive Robots”

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last spoke with Loop AI Labs over two years ago, it was leveraging its cognitive platform to create what the company calls cognitive robots to augment human works and automate repetitive business processes. The company explained that it does this by harvesting the so-called dark data that humans rely on to perform these tasks — things like unwritten rules and institutional knowledge.

The company has doubled down on this vision and believes that its goal to emulate human thought process and thereby enable its cognitive robots to learn how to make good decisions is its clear differentiator. To achieve this goal, the company combines artificial intelligence methodologies with numerous other disciplines such as linguistics, neuroscience, supercomputing, and psychology. The company has also furthered its position in the growing Robotic Process Automation (RPA) market through a partnership with BluePrism.

From a technology perspective, the company delivers its solution as a “blank slate” cognitive appliance. This approach means that it does not come with any pre-built models, but instead uses unsupervised learning to rapidly learn the unique jargon, business and product names, and cultural indicators of each organization. The company claims that it is this approach that enables it to uncover and leverage the dark data to more closely emulate human thought processes. This capability also allows it to function using any language, include double-digit Asian characters. The product’s appliance format also enables organizations to deploy it on-premises and leverage it on even their most sensitive data and business processes.
