HYAS: Taking countermeasures against attackers

Much like NASA tracks thousands of pieces of space trash as they orbit the earth to mitigate the risk of colliding with one, HYAS is constantly vigilant for hackers as they orbit their favorite haunts on the internet, in order to help security teams proactively dispose of them if they become a threat to one of their customers.

Their Comox product provides automated countermeasures, standing in contrast to many Infosec products on the market today, which tend to focus on better known areas of intrusion prevention and detection, application code validation, security testing, anti-malware and risk mitigation.

The company maintains extensive records of discovered IP and DNS entries, geo-location data, known usernames and aliases and more, in order to better identify and target proactive measures against known attackers and attack patterns. For instance, they can compare the behavioral profile of a foreign state actor, versus an amateur hacker using free downloaded Darkweb tools.

Given the massive current risk of cyberattacks, and the costly damage of failed prevention attempts, adding forensic skills and offensive power to the security team is a justifiable next step for many companies and investigative authorities.
