Quali: Booting Environments-as-a-Service into the cloud

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Quali automates the deployment of software-defined, cloud-provisioned environments for development and testing, training labs, sales demos and security ranges. By itself, that’s not unique, but at 12 years old, Quali has been working in the cloud longer than most, using that time to hone in on functionality to support enterprise development teams and improve customer experience.

Their CloudShell application suite allows self-service provisioning of software-defined environments atop AWS or Azure cloud services, or on private cloud platforms, or inside the company’s own firewall.

Environment ‘blueprints’ are defined for Quali as YAML code in Github which fits the workflow of the DevOps SRE, but most users of the application would browse and launch blue-green deployments and manage configured clouds from the app’s slick, game-like management UI.

With support for Kubernetes clusters and automation interaction with leading CI/CD pipeline tools (Jenkins, et.al.), there’s no feature shortage. As for their market, timing will tell. As one of the last remaining independent enterprise cloud lab vendors, Quali could be in position for a strong kickoff into the cloud.
