Stratoscale: Have cloud, will travel

An Intellyx BrainCandy Update

Intellyx last covered Stratoscale in November 2016.

The company has built a software-defined datacenter management and apps layer that supports the continued enterprise push toward workload portability, openness and commoditization of both infrastructure and cloud services.

With architects and IT ops teams leaning ever more strongly toward hybrid IT, companies realize they still need to manage an application suite, while running workloads wherever they are best suited for compliance, scale and cost reasons. So much so that IT investment on various flavors of private cloud or on-premises cloud-like architecture will likely outstrip public cloud by a factor of 4 to 5X.

Rather than wait around for major players to define that market with proprietary aims, Stratoscale offers a “non-opinionated” open approach to managing workloads across hybrid environments, leveraging a kit of their own cloud apps that can be installed atop on-premises bare metal as well provisioning resources from several flavors of private and public cloud.

As a mid-sized company emerging to cloud-native architectures from the HCI market, they bring a heritage of governance to this open cloud layer, with automated backups, redundancy, failover and airgap partitioning between regions and environments where demanded by governmental or compliance concerns.
