Armory: Commercializing Spinnaker for Cloud-Native Automated Software Delivery

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Spinnaker is an open source, multicloud continuous delivery platform that Netflix originally developed for its web scale, cloud-native environment. Yet while Spinnaker has been meeting Netflix’s needs for a while now, the company didn’t implement it for widespread enterprise deployment.

Armory has been filling the gaps in Spinnaker, making it installable and robust enough for broad enterprise use. Thanks to Armory’s leadership, as well as contributions from the three major public cloud providers and others, Spinnaker is now an enterprise-ready automated software delivery platform.

Spinnaker’s most important characteristic is how it abstracts the choice of deployment environment across hybrid cloud and multicloud scenarios. It also fills in the gaps of other DevOps tools that claim to support CI/CD, but in reality, lack effective continuous delivery capabilities.

With Armory’s help, Spinnaker can support true continuous delivery, as well as other delivery cadences for enterprises who aren’t ready for, or will never need to deploy software on a continuous basis.
