Falkonry Update: From Predictive Analytics to Predictive Operations

An Intellyx BrainCandy Brief

When we last spoke with Falkonry a year and a half ago, its focus was on helping industrial operations teams harness the power of predictive analytics without needing a team of data scientists to do so. While the company remains committed to this approach, it has now upped the ante by focusing on what it calls predictive operations

The company believes that the industry has placed too much emphasis on things like predictive maintenance. As a result, companies are failing to see the bigger picture and broader world of opportunities that predictive analytics can deliver when properly applied. To do so, according to the company, organizations must capture the insights derived from predictive analytics in real-time and utilize them dynamically within the operational model. For instance, the company explains that rather than merely using analytics to predict the maintenance needs of a machine, its solution can help identify off-spec items produced by it.

One of the company’s clients is doing just that using the solution to predict the quality of a weld, in real-time, as the welding machine is executing a weld. By predicting the failure at the point of origination and enabling it to be remediated on the spot rather than waiting for a quality inspector — or worse, a customer — to discover it, Falkonry allows its clients to simultaneously reduce the cost of rework and improve customer satisfaction. That, the company explains, is the essence of digital operations: to apply predictive analytics to monitor, predict, and improve operational outcomes.
