Rubrik is most familiar for being a vendor of backup and restore technology. While such technology is important, it’s no longer disruptive – at least when it runs on-premises.
Rubrik, however, also offers backup and restore capabilities in one or more clouds as well as on-premises, a capability it calls cloud data management.
In addition to file and object storage, Rubrik can backup and restore databases (on-prem and in the cloud) as well as SaaS data – for example, Office 365 data, which it accesses via APIs.
Customers configure and control Rubrik via declarative policy management, an essential cloud-native computing best practice. The vendor can even back up from on-prem to cloud for the small segment of customers that have sufficient bandwidth for such a task.
