Why You Should Do AIOps With the Mainframe

Intellyx White Paper for IBM by Charles Araujo

Enterprise IT organizations are moving full-steam-ahead with AIOps initiatives and the allure is clear: use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve many of the long-standing operational challenges that have held IT organizations back.

Look past the hyperbole and marketing bluster, however, and you’ll find that most enterprises are just scratching the surface with their efforts. But even more importantly, they’re leaving out an essential component — something that will inhibit their ability to either fully adopt AIOps or do it at scale.

That missing component? The mainframe.

The mainframe is a central player in the IT operations stack of many enterprise organizations, and any AIOps adoption effort that proceeds without it will be, by definition, incomplete.

Yet, rarely do conversations include this essential element of the technology stack — and that’s a big miss. With so much at stake, enterprise IT organizations cannot afford to miss anything.

Incorporating the mainframe into AIOps efforts, however, requires that you understand the true essence of the approach, why it is an integral part of that effort, and then understand how to best leverage it as part of a holistic adoption initiative.
