An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Kobiton has zoomed in on the underserved last mile of mobile application delivery with a hybrid IT solution for testing the user experience of native mobile apps and mobile web apps across virtually any device and OS endpoint configuration.
This two-year old startup has already grown by huge bounds due to the market reality that mobile experience is a top 3 customer acquisition and retention priority for most customer-facing companies. Until recently, most mobile testing still consisted of either lots of end users literally tapping on physical devices or remote-controlled device farms and emulators through a web session, or the manual maintenance of brittle automation scripts (or also, responsive web testing, which doesn’t really cover native apps).
Kobiton offers both scriptless capture of parameterized functional and UAT tests, and a way to import scripts from Appium, Selenium and other tools. These suites can then be merged with the team’s CI/CD pipeline to launch automated tests against their global public cloud farm of real devices, or privately reserved devices, or local devices, at deployment and delivery time.
Test metrics and alerts are then reported back to the mobile delivery team’s observability and service management platforms, with contextual stack tracing data to pinpoint exactly which app/function/device/OS/region combinations produced which failure conditions.
