Lightrun: A developer sandbox for code-level production observability

Lightrun Intellyx BC LogoAn Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

There are plenty of observability tools that start from the right side of the software delivery lifecycle, where operational metrics and alert data are collected to provide visibility into ongoing and potential problems.

Lightrun takes a different approach to observability by giving developers a safe sandbox with look-ahead feedback from production snapshots in real time, while coding and pull requests are happening.

You might mistake this shift-left approach for some form of test-first development, but this is not just about catching bugs earlier. Since most development is really coding a change in an IDE that eventually makes its way into a remote live system the ability for developers to have a real-time window of insight into errors and performance hits once deployed–while they are coding–is unique.

SRE and DevOps teams can still consume this augmented data within the monitoring and metrics tools they prefer, but if these shift-right observability tools trigger exceptions that a developer using Lightrun influenced, they can pinpoint the tagged area where the code-level error may have been introduced for debugging.
