An Intellyx BrainCandy Update
As individual consumers, most of us won’t realize the future of smart environments and smart devices is on the way until we’re already immersed in a connected society, because the progression of intelligent software logic to edge devices has been discontinuous and intermittent.
VANTIQ is seeking to lay a foundation for developers to design applications that talk to the massively distributed swarm of IoT devices in the world. We previously covered VANTIQ in 2017 and 2018 and 2020, as the startup sprouted from its kernel of device integration middleware that manages microservices workloads on devices to a service mesh layer for IoT applications.
The firm’s app dev platform handles many of the low-level tasks needed to make sense of a remote array of sensors, controllers and logical processors, including low-power operations, discontinuous data collection and transfer, network addressing and access control. However, the real pudding is in how it allows application workflows to be executed at scale, distributing containerized data collection and inferencing workloads across an often intermittently available dusty-edged cloud.
Customer scenarios have evolved past early adopter edge computing cases like retail kiosks and self-driving cars, leading the company to recruit a network of system integrator partners and ISVs to jointly solve larger scale problems of unmanned industrial operations, smart cities and government entities.
