Connected to change at BMC Innovation Summit 2023

At BMC Software’s Innovation Summit 2023 in San Francisco, the analyst-only program included a whirlwind tour of new interactive capabilities to demonstrate how much their vision of “Connected Digital Ops” has transformed along with the hybrid IT environments enterprises support applications within.

The announcement of new generative AI capabilities for their Helix Operations Management and BMC Service Management platforms took center stage, as well as a strategic AI research initiative with University of Oxford’s Saïd School of Business.

Thankfully, their approach to incorporating AI across so many enterprise systems offers pragmatic augmentation rather than magical hallucination. BMC’s HelixGPT LLM models improve issue resolution summaries, correlate operational service and event data, and provide a natural language command interface that allows more users and roles to easily interface with chatbots to find solutions and pass along context to the help desk if escalations are required.

Of particular note was a set of several brief breakout demonstrations, including advanced visualization and AR/VR, showing off their latest lab work and feature enhancements in each of the ‘-Ops’ categories of their solution suite. 

For instance, an DataOps demonstration showed how an admin could use physical gestures to navigate a visual map of enterprise data flows to look for anomalies. A ConnectedOps IoT demonstration offered a “digital twin” scenario with actual robot arms doing production sorting work according to a larger factory operations planning view.

Combining fast data management across hybrid environments, automation and AI Ops for better ITSM and DevOps efficiency probably holds the most potential value for BMC’s enterprise customer base, even if those demos weren’t quite as gamified. 

A compelling digital transformation case study with snack giant Hershey’s and a modernization best practices customer roundtable closed out the packed one-day agenda.
