Wing Cloud: Abstracting Multi-Cloud Services

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Wing Cloud is based on the open source Wing cloud programming language, which abstracts services across multiple cloud providers, combining app code with infrastructure configuration code.

Wing basically marries JavaScript (NodeJS) for business functionality and Terraform for cloud infrastructure configuration.

Wing Cloud offers a graphical console to view the infrastructure and code combination as it’s being developed, and a cloud runtime for simplifying deployment on the cloud.

Wing supports basic language functions and cloud infrastructure service categories such as storage buckets, functions, queues, and secrets, to name a few.

You can create your Wing program locally, compile it for the target cloud environment, and then deploy it on the cloud. The Wing compiler generates the right Terraform scripts for the target cloud.

Wing Cloud follows the open core model – the Wing open source language is free but Wing Cloud charges for the console and the cloud runtime platform.

Developers creating cloud apps can use Wing to reduce the complexities of working with each public cloud environment, which speeds up deployment of business functionality.
