Checkly provides checks to improve browser testing and monitoring

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Checkly provides the infrastructure and workflows for writing and executing browser checks, during testing, production, or both.

The checks can be written using TypeScript or JavaScript are stored and managed in the same code repository the application uses.

Checkly uses the Playwright Test framework for running the tests (checks), and executes them within the Checkly infrastructure. Checkly stores the test results and displays them on on the Chekly dashboard.

The same test code can be deployed in production to monitor the execution of the browser code in real time and flag any issues using alerts.

Checkly also supports API checks to test API behavior, for example to check the API URL and method.

Because the monitoring is stored with the application code, the Checkly workflow is defined as “monitoring as code,” in contrast to agent or log based monitoring performed outside the application code.

Checkly offers a CLI for on-demand execution of checks and for storing and retrieving checks in your Checkly account.

The CLI can pass environment variables into a check for its execution to avoid including sensitive data in the check code.

Checkly can be used to test preview deploys and environments, or it can execute continuously for production monitoring.
