Establishing a top-notch CI/CD cycle that ‘automates all the things’ from integration-as-code, to testing and deployment can surface a serious DevOps bottleneck, if the needed devtest environments can’t keep up with architectural drift, especially in hybrid cloud delivery scenarios.

I revisited with Release at KubeCon NA 2023, and the startup has progressed quite a bit since our initial coverage of them in 2021. The platform engineering vendor was showing off new AI-assisted capabilities for automatically mirroring development environments that appear to be faster, cheaper, and less risky to work with than conventional ones.

Of particular note was a remote environment feature that allows a developer to fully replicate a production environment on their own laptop, including a snapshot of service data and valid data stores that can be obfuscated for policy reasons.
