An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
According to its web site, OpenTelemetry (OTel) is a collection of APIs, SDKs, and tools that engineers can use to instrument, generate, collect, and export telemetry data (metrics, logs, and traces) to analyze software performance and behavior.
While OTel is popular, its adoption has been growing slowly, as observability vendors must either rework their offerings or provide an integration layer to support it.
Dash0, in contrast, built their offering from the ground up to support OTel. As a result, Dash0 is quick and simple to set up and provides all the semantic context for logs, metrics, and traces that OTel metadata can provide.
Because OTel is an open-source open standard, Dash0 offers observability with no vendor lock-in. Instead, Dash0 is fully interoperable with modern observability ecosystems.
