Varnish Software: Next-gen persistent global and local delivery service

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Varnish Software reengineered the CDN from first principles, creating a cloud native, backend agnostic delivery service with an application layer cache that eases configuration and traffic routing woes while fine-tuning the performance of streaming data, files and media to end customers.

What’s cool here is that unlike centrally managed CDNs and object store vendors, the solution can be operated irrespective of its underlying infrastructure. They can activate their service over the edge in points of presence around the world. Or, DevOps teams can declaratively include a containerized package within the CI/CD pipeline and deploy a Kubernetes cluster within their own private network fencing.

This flexibility makes Varnish a popular choice for companies experimenting with AI, where end users expect low latency and quick request-response times through API gateways. In addition, many well-known entertainment and streaming services appreciate being able to set up their own private CDNs on commodity hardware at far lower operational expense.

We last covered Varnish Software in March 2024.
