An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
Our previous coverage of Catalogic Software focused on its CloudCasa Kubernetes disaster recovery (DR), backup and restore SaaS offering, most recently in May 2022.
Catalogic is now expanding its CloudCasa platform to on-premises for those enterprises who require it.
On-premises Kubernetes DR, backup, and restore capabilities have three primary use cases:
- Enterprises who are migrating off on-premises VMware to Kubernetes by leveraging the KubeVirt VM add-on for Kubernetes and who want to continue running their VMs on-premises
- Enterprises who must run Kubernetes and its associated data infrastructure on-premises for data residency and sovereignty regulatory purposes
- Managed service providers who want to take advantage of CloudCasa’s multitenancy to offer DR, backup, and restore to their own customers.
Catalogic is also rolling out a storage-specific offering that leverages individual storage vendors’ built-in resilience capabilities starting with HPE, with more storage vendors to come.
Intellyx hot take: Catalogic’s maturation of CloudCasa into a platform enables it to play well in complex hybrid environments. As software infrastructure becomes more complex, the importance of DR and backup grows, and Catalogic supports such complexity.
Intellyx cold take: Because Catalogic lacks a strong AI strategy, it risks losing out on strategic AI investments – even though today’s enterprise AI deployments require DR, backup, and restore capabilities that rise to the challenges that stateful agentic workflows can present.
