An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
Since we last covered CloudFrame in September 2025, the company has rolled out Continuum, which expands its mainframe modernization offering to include running modernized code in simulated environments, leveraging both deterministic and agentic AI when appropriate, and driving modernization with the behavior of mainframe apps in production.
Each of these capabilities is well-differentiated and provides significant value to CloudFrame’s customers, enabling them to reduce their technical debt and keep it from returning.
Continuum first discovers both static mainframe code as well as the behavior of mainframe apps in production, which often uncovers missing elements that drive the application behavior including undocumented supporting utilities and interdependencies.
Continuum then builds a working simulation of the mainframe app it runs on a JVM in the customer environment for both iterative development and testing. The LinuxOne platform (IBM’s Linux on mainframe offering) is particularly well-suited for this capability.
The code modernization itself can then take either of two paths: a deterministic approach that delivers modern, well-architected Java code that provides functional equivalence to the original application, and an agentic approach that incorporates new requirements as appropriate alongside functional equivalence when required.
CloudFrame’s modernization approach also uncovers security vulnerabilities in mainframe code and tunes modernized applications for the target infrastructure (Kubernetes for example).
Intellyx hot take: CloudFrame’s judicious use of agentic AI for mainframe application modernization stands out from other vendors, many of which leverage AI agents for everything. CloudFrame’s approach delivers fewer hallucinations and better functional equivalence when required.
Intellyx cold take: Modernization stakeholders only tackle such difficult projects because they know their legacy mainframe applications have mission-critical issues. CloudFrame can uncover many other problems that those stakeholders may not even be aware of, potentially leading to counterproductive ‘head in the sand’ reactions from those customers.
