An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
Cloud Range models and delivers realistic cyber range environments in the cloud for red- and blue-team security testing and human and agent team training against reproductions of live incident scenarios.
Since our last coverage of the firm at RSAC 2025, a lot of new infrastructure has popped up in the playing field for these exercises in addition to the usual cloud servers, networks, and local workstations, including AI inference, autonomous agents, hyperscaling Kubernetes pods, even connected IoT/OT devices in virtual facilities. What you need in a cyber range depends on the usage or attack scenario the team is attempting to reproduce.
There’s an extensive library of stock configurations and MITRE ATT&CK and persistent threat scenarios ready to go. An expert team provides support and a knowledgebase to help make the environments as realistic as possible, as the customer brings their organization’s entire suite of security management, collaboration, reporting, pentesting, and even “agentic SOC” tools to bear.
This dynamic facility makes each attack and response action seem as realistic and close to live-fire as possible, yet safely cordoned off from internal resources and external internet domains. A comprehensive after-action report encapsulates the play-by-play with performance metrics and areas for improvement for the org and each team member.
Intellyx hot take: I’ve long evangelized the value of virtual environments for development and testing, so it’s fun to see how teams, and now AI agents, can play both sides in these virtual cyber ranges. They’re not exactly digital twins, because you need to “cause the cause” of an incident, including injecting points of failure, malicious attackers, malware, and vulnerabilities into the environments, to see how players respond.
Intellyx cold take: Just like a state-of-the-art athletic training facility, the value an organization gets out of a cyber range is heavily dependent on the consistent practice methodology and discipline the whole team applies. And it’s not just a technical exercise, there are a lot of “soft skills” to develop here, including clear chain of command, well-timed handoffs, and empathetic communication.
